The National Leader of the Action Congress in the South-South, Chief Tom Ikimi, has said that Edo State is the next destination of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, going by recent discoveries made in the state.
Ikimi said that the Asset Verification Committee set up by Governor Adams Oshiomhole had made startling discoveries that would attract the attention of the leadership of the EFCC. Speaking during a state luncheon organised by Oshiomhole at the Government House, Benin, on Friday, the former External Affairs Minister said that the outcome of the asset verification exercise would be mind-boggling.
He did not, however, go into the details of the discoveries indicting the administration of former governor Oserheimen Osunbor. He assured, however, that when the findings were brought to the attention of the Chairman of the EFCC, Mrs. Farida Waziri, she and the operatives of the commission would definitely have a lot of work to do.
Ikimi, who also spoke on the expected list of commissioner-nominees in the state, said that the governor would release it without further delay, in “the next couple of days.” He said it would usher in the immediate commencement of developmental activities of the state government for the year.
Also speaking at the event, former Chief of General Staff, Admiral Mike Akhigbe (rtd.), urged the leadership and supporters of the various political parties in the state to support the Oshiomhole administration. He said the state government should not be seen as the government of the AC, on whose platform Oshiomhole got to power.
Akhigbe said that the politics of the state had been characterised by so much filth because politicians simply failed to be their “brothers’ keepers” while thugs were involved in the conduct of elections.
Also at the event, a former governor of the state, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, said that Oshiomhole’s victory at the Court of Appeal had restored Edo people’s hope. He said that the state had been in a deplorable state of hopelessness in the past 10 years until Oshiomhole’s emergence.
